Some SMS Facts You Perhaps Didn't Know

with 0 Comment
Since its birth in 1992, SMS has changed the way we communicate with texts. As its name suggests, SMS has enabled us to tell things and communicate in the shortest and precise way possible. The way SMS has managed to get us all hooked to it simple beyond our imagination.

Today, the approximate users of SMS worldwide stands at an astounding figure of 3.7 billion. What surprises us even more is that only 3.5 billion people in the world brush everyday. So SMS has become more important than a daily habit. Such is the way SMS has captured all of us. Annually 8.6 trillion SMS are sent each year globally - perhaps more than the stars present in some galaxies.

Due to its short, precise and quick nature, SMS are replied eight times as quickly as e-mails What supports this fact is that 91% people keep their cell phones within their arm's reach ( Don't dare you touch my cell phone!) 90 % SMS also get seen within three minutes of receiving. And as much as 70% people love to receive offers and promotions in their cell phones.

The influence of SMS has led to the birth of a social media giant, Twitter. 140 characters on a tweet was influenced by the 160 character of a SMS.

And if you're thinking about the best time to send an SMS, do it between 10:30 to 11 in the night. If you think you want to do much later than that, make sure your recipient is suffering from insomnia!

Interesting Facts about Facebook

with 0 Comment
Republic of Facebook? Or does it sound good when said People's Republic of Facebook? Democratic Republic of Facebook doesn't sound bad either - Facebook is all about people. And if Facebook were a country, it would be the world's third most populated country surpassed only by India and China.

The latest stats of Facebook are mind-boggling. With 1.23 billion active users in a month, yes, active users (forget the one's who set up their account and vanish away for years), Facebook stands as one large community able to unite people across the globe. The total number of likes on Facebook each day equals world's population of 1999 - 6 Billion! And the number of photos uploaded on Facebook exceeds the U.S population - 350 million total uploads a day.

With 60% of users being active each day, imagine the traffic on Facebook - sure to give its servers a tough job. Also, average user spends 7.75 hours each month on Facebook - enough to fly from Kathmandu to Bangkok and come back.

One of every three user is an Asian, while the other one-third comprises of users from Latin America, Africa and Australia. Europe has a total user base of 23% and 16% of users are from USA and Canada.

Where does Nepal come in all this? With 4 million users, Nepal only makes up 0.32%

Latest Telecom Scenario in Nepal

with 0 Comment
Nepal Telecom Authority has published the latest Telecom Stats. As per the latest issue done in June-July, telephone penetration rate in the nation has increased up to 92%. This is a significant rise from March, which saw total penetration rate at 86.52%.

Among other key trends to be observed was how Ncell has managed to steadied its market share which stands at an impressive 49%, despite stiff competition from NTC whose market share is a respectable 44%. Ncell's market share has grown up by 1% in three months whereas that of NTC has remained stable.

Mobile's penetration has gone up from 77% to 83% within these three months - another indication of the growing market for telecom companies in Nepal. Despite having a lower market share than Ncell, NTC, however, has a greater share in GPRS/EDGE users with a good figure of 4.42 million over Ncell's 3.92 million.

However, a major topic of debate would be whether the 92% figure truly represents the the tele-density rate. Something common in Nepal is an individual having multiple SIM cards and many SIM cards remaining inactive for prolonged periods. In that case, though, concluding 92% to be representative of the entire penetration may be biased. The actual figure may be lower than that.
